HD and BluRay rips from OLD movies and tv shows, are a bunch of crock! They make them, just to re-release another dvd set and make more money of HD crazy SUCKERS.
Its not like we can go back in time, and re-record star trek with HD cameras. To be full HD, you have to record with HD cameras.
These companies, want to make you think that its so much better.
But its not.
Its just like the re-re-re-re-release, special, collectors, edition, of James Bond 007 in Blu-Ray.

There is no need to go back in time to record in HD. It’s been already recorded in HD!
Traditional 35mm film has much much higher quality than some low-res 1080p format. Given time and the right equipment it is possible to extract a 4k digital copy of the film. And sure, 60′s Bond in HD is possible, even 4k HD as master film reels, if treated properly, have that much picture information stored in it and even more to spare.
To be honest, using a 1 or 2k HD camera equipment in filming is actually a downgrade in picture quality compared to film..
Remaster HD dvds, are not a load of crap, there is a huge difference sometimes more of a difference btw a regular dvd and a blueray. So the person who made that statement probably doesnt own an hd tv or a blueray player.

For something to be offically HD/Blu-Ray, it has to be recorded with an HD camera.

The original poster does have a point, even though he might have a lack of knowledge.
The companies are not really improving much, on old movies, and just want to make a quick buck, releasing 10 different editions. You also have to remember, that every studio is different, on how they transfer from the orignal source. Some are good, but some are very, very bad. Its different from every studio.
And why do you think the price of Blu-Rays are still through the roof?? Sony are taking a $2.9billion loss for their fiscal year. People just cannot afford this medium (not right now in the economy) You just do not get your bang, for your buck!
Blu-ray is looked down upon from other companies as well. X-box still says they will totally refuse to make their next generation with blu-ray.

The jump from VHS to DVD was dramatic and obvious – Qyality movie and game reviews, digital surround sound, non-degrading storage format, multiple audio tracks, etc. The jump from DVD to the next generation does not provide any benefits other than higher resolution, which to be fair is a great reason to want that upgrade, but there is nothing else. Cool menus and new interactive layer? People just want to watch the stinking movie. Better sound? Bah. 5.1 channel Dolby or DTS is pretty much the best it’s going to get.
A lot of people have spent a lot of money building their DVD collections, a format that just became mainstream not too long ago. Do you really want to go out and replace all of those movies?
