In just one month Intel will be hitting us, or better yet, petting us and hitting AMD with the release of the new Core 2 Duo processors with 1333 MHz FSBs (fron side bus). The new CPUs will replace the older Conroe parts with 1066 MHz FSBs and will also arrive with updated prices to further increase the pressure applied on AMD. The fastest CPU in Intel’s updated offer will be the E6850, a dual-core part with 4 MB of L2 cache and 3.0 GHz per core that will beat the Core 2 Extreme X6800 and will do that both in overall performance and price. This new high-end CPU is now beginning to show its lack of pins in online stores like MoreComputers.co.uk and PCUpgrader.com where, one can see the big price difference between the two Conroe CPUs mentioned. At MoreComputers, the E6850 has a price tag of £178.59 including VAT, some $356 or €265 while the X6800 costs £640.97 or $1,276/€951. It might not have a cvasi-unlocked multiplier like the X6800, but the E6850 will surely have a lot of overclocking potential and, with such a low price tag, it can probably win a price/performance award.
The E6850 isn’t alone in this as Intel is set to release three other CPUs – the E6750, E6550 and E6540. And Phenom is nowhere in sight.
